Kelly Clarkson - A Moment Like This

Song Info:

"A Moment Like This" is a song originally recorded by American singer Kelly Clarkson the first winner of American Idol, released as her first ever single which topped the Billboard Hot 100 from her multi-platinum debut album, Thankful. It has been recorded by Leona Lewis, the third winner of the British television programme The X Factor.

The song was co-written by Jörgen Elofsson and John Reid (of dance act Nightcrawlers) and produced by Stephen Ferrera and Steve Mac. It was written to be the first single for the winner of the first season of American Idol. As a result, the four remaining finalists, Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini, Nikki McKibbin, and Tamyra Gray each recorded a version of the song in case he or she won. The song was first revealed to the public when Guarini and Clarkson competed in a final showdown while singing this song, along with another track, "Before Your Love". After the American public had voted, Guarini performed the song (and Clarkson performed "Before Your Love") at the final show before the results were revealed. When Clarkson was announced as the winner, she became emotional, and sang the song as her final performance.

"Before Your Love", was also given to radio and had a video shot, which debuted on MTV's TRL[1] before "A Moment Like This" did; however, it failed to achieve the level of success of "A Moment Like This". To date, "A Moment Like This" has sold approximately 1,047,000 copies.

On 10/18/2002, the single was certified gold by RIAA and has sold over 500,000 copies in all formats in the U.S.

All Star with Michael Jackson - What More Can I Give

Song Info:

"What More Can I Give" (also "Todo Para Ti" in Spanish) is a song written by American musician Michael Jackson and recorded by a supergroup of singers following the September 11 attacks in 2001. The inspiration for the song had initially come to Jackson after a meeting with the President of South Africa Nelson Mandela in the late 1990s. The song was to be premiered at a Jackson concert, but the singer failed to perform it. The song also failed to gain an official release, despite the pop singer having stated that it would be issued as a charity single for the refugees of the Kosovo War, which ended in 1999.

Following the September 11 attacks in 2001, Jackson rewrote "What More Can I Give". Jackson and other artists recorded the new version of the song shortly afterward; the other artists included Beyoncé Knowles, Celine Dion, Luther Vandross, Mariah Carey and Usher. In addition, a Spanish language version of the song was recorded. Entitled "Todo Para Ti", its lyrics were written by musician Rubén Blades.

"What More Can I Give" was scheduled for release as a charity single, in the hope that $50 million would be raised to aid the survivors and the families of victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The plan, however, never came to fruition and the reasons why have varied between sources and the individuals involved. One newspaper stated that the release of the song was abandoned after it emerged that the executive producer had directed pornographic movies. The producer, Marc Schaffel, denied that he was to blame, and offered the opinion that the song was not released as part of a marketing ploy by Sony Music.

"What More Can I Give" was played on the radio for the first time in late 2002. The debut airing was made without permission by radio station WKTU-FM in New York. The following year, on October 27, 2003, "What More Can I Give" was made available to the public by way of digital download. Proceeds from the sale of the song went to children's charities.

British pop girl group Girls Aloud recorded a cover of "I'll Stand by You", produced by Brian Higgins and his production team Xenomania to be the official Children in Need song in 2004. The track was announced a single just ten days before its 15 November 2004 release.[1] It became Girls Aloud's second number one on the UK Singles Chart.[2] The song appears on Girls Aloud's second album What Will the Neighbours Say?. The first version of "I'll Stand by You" that Xenomania created was described as a "weird, modernist breakbeat version", which was scrapped upon deciding an updated version of the original song would be better suited for Children in Need.[3] Girls Aloud toured radio stations across the United Kingdom and performed an acoustic arrangement of "I'll Stand by You" that they arranged themselves.

Katharine Mcphee - Over It

Song Info:

"Over It" is the first single to be released from the eponymous album by Katharine McPhee, the American Idol season five (2006) finalist.[1] The song was reportedly described by McPhee as "the only real pop song on the record" and as being "a very sultry song about young love".[1] The song was produced by Billy Steinberg and Josh Alexander, and written by Alexander, Steinberg and Ruth-Anne Cunningham, the writers of JoJo's "Too Little Too Late". The song is available for listening via online music services such as AOL and MySpace, courtesy of RCA Records. McPhee has since stated that this was not "[her] favorite song" and she did not want her "song to be something that [she] was a part of."[2]

In the song, McPhee sings over a sultry beat driven by acoustic guitars about letting go of the person one loves because one does not share the same feeling. The narrator complains about how their lover cheats on them, and is betraying their trust.

The song is somewhat tongue-in-cheek in that McPhee describes several qualities about her ex-boyfriend, while at the same time she seems to fixate on them, showing she is not fully over him.
