Roxette - Fireworks

Song Info:

"Fireworks" is a song by the Swedish pop duo Roxette. Released in 1994, it was the third single from their album Crash! Boom! Bang!. It achieved moderate success in various European countries, and peaked at number 30 on the UK Singles Chart.

Strangely the single was omitted from the career retrospective The RoxBox which included every international single released by Roxette up to 2006, it has also been left off other hits compilations, leading to speculation that Roxette do not like the song.

In an interview with The Daily Roxette website in 2009, Per Gessle was asked if he liked the song, he answered "I guess it just wasn't big enough" and offered no other explanation for the songs lack of recognition, leaving the original question unanswered as to whether he likes Fireworks or not.

Music Video Info:

The music video is mainly based in London, featuring several well known places and landmarks as well as signage from the London Underground. Parts of the video are also set on a beach with fire surrounding the duo as the song reaches it's climax.

Roxette - Joyride

Song Info:

"Joyride", written by Per Gessle, was the first single released from Swedish pop duo Roxette's 1991 album Joyride, the follow-up to the group's highly successful Look Sharp!. The single topped the charts across Europe, and in Australia, Canada and the United States, where it spent one week at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, their last to do so, in May 1991. In the UK, "Joyride" peaked at #4.

In interviews, Gessle states he got the idea for the opening line of this song from his girlfriend (now wife) who left a note on his piano that stated, "Hello, you fool, I love you."[1]

In the opening section of the song, a man is heard saying "Come on, join the joyride everybody, get your tickets here, step right this way", in a possible homage to The Beatles' song "Magical Mystery Tour", where at the opening section, Paul McCartney is heard saying "Roll up, roll up for the Magical Mystery Tour! Step right this way!".

During the 1994 Stanley Cup playoffs this became the intro anthem to the Vancouver Canucks as they took the ice before each game.

Recorded with members of the Swedish pop group Gyllene Tider, "June Afternoon" was the planned centrepiece on Per Gessle's upcoming solo album The World According to Gessle, but plans were changed and this cheerful ode to endless summer was picked as a single off Roxette's 1995 greatest hit album.

The second song on this single is a demo version of "Seduce Me", which was later included on the 2006 release of The Rox Box.

It was held out from the #1 spot by the Paula Abdul track "Opposites Attract". The music video was performed in the ruins of Borgholm Castle. Roxette - She Doesn't Live Here Anymoe

Artist Info:

Roxette is a Swedish pop music duo, consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle. The group enjoyed worldwide success from the late 1980s until the mid-1990s, gaining nineteen UK Top 40 hits[1] and four US #1 singles with, "The Look", "Listen to Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love" and "Joyride".[2] Two further singles "Dangerous" and "Fading Like a Flower" hit #2.[2] Finally, "Dressed for Success" was a modest hit in the US peaking at #14.[2]

After a hiatus in the mid-1990s, their popularity continued in other territories such as Europe and South America, where they earned various Gold and Platinum awards until the beginning of the new millennium. The duo took a break from recording and touring, when in 2002, Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumour.[3] Roxette took to the stage together again for the first time in 8 years, in 2009, during Gessle's European Party Crasher tour.[4]

Their songs continue to receive radio airplay, with "It Must Have Been Love" and "Listen to Your Heart" both recently receiving awards from BMI for achieving four million radio plays.[5][6] They have sold an estimated 60 million records worldwide,[7][8] with over 3.5 million record sales in the United States,[9][10][11] achieving platinum for Joyride and Look Sharp! there.[9]

Roxette - Sleeping In My Car

Song Info:

"Sleeping in My Car", written by Per Gessle, is a song by Roxette, released as the first single from their 1994 album Crash! Boom! Bang!. While it did not perform relatively well in the US, reaching only #50 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, it was in fact a major hit in many other countries. It reached #1 in Sweden and #3 in Canada, and stayed on the Canadian charts for more than half a year.

When Roxette did a concert in Beijing, China in 1995, they were asked to change the suggestive lyrics of the song. "We agreed, but didn't change them in the end," says Per Gessle.[1]

Roxette - You Don't Understand Me

Song Info:

"You Don't Understand Me" is a song by the Swedish pop duo Roxette. Released in 1995, it was the first new single from their Greatest Hits album Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus! - Roxette's Greatest Hits.

"You Don't Understand Me," was written by Per Gessle and Desmond Child and this was the first time Gessle had co-written a song with an international songwriter.

Roxette recorded acoustic versions of the songs, "The Look", "Listen to Your Heart", "You Don't Understand Me" and "Help!", at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, England. "Help!", a cover of the "Lennon/McCartney" song originally recorded by The Beatles, was released on the Roxette compilation The Rox Box/Roxette 86-06, whereas the other three songs were included on the UK release of this single and "You Don't Understand Me" was also included on the single "Anyone", released in 1999.

The single reached the top 10 on the Swedish and Finnish singles charts. In the UK, the single was released in 1996, peaking outside the top 40.

Roxette - Almost Unreal

Song Info:

"Almost Unreal" is a pop song performed by Swedish duo Roxette. The song was released in May 1993 and is featured on the soundtrack of Super Mario Bros. (film).

"Almost Unreal" became a summer hit especially in Europe, where it hit Top 10 and Top 20 in many countries, including the UK where it reached #7, and the video received a heavy rotation on music channels. The song proved to be unsuccessful in US where it peaked at #94 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart.

The song's inclusion on the Super Mario Bros. sound track angered songwriter Per Gessle [1] as it was originally written for Walt Disney's 1993 fantasy-comedy "Hocus Pocus" starring Bette Midler, but was never used.

Roxette - Crash Boom Bang

Song Info:

Crash Boom Bang!, known in Japan as Crash Bandicoot Festival is a party game developed by Dimps and published by Sierra Entertainment for the Nintendo DS. It was released in Japan on July 20, 2006, in North America on October 10, 2006,[1] in Europe on October 27, 2006,[2] and in Australia on November 2, 2006.[3] It is the first (and so far only) game in the Crash Bandicoot series to be developed by a Japanese company, the first to be released in Japan before North America and (so far) the last to be released in Japan.

Crash Boom Bang! is the thirteenth installment in the Crash Bandicoot series. It is the first (and so far only) Crash Bandicoot game to be originally developed and released in Japan, the first game to be released exclusively for the Nintendo DS, and the second party game of the series, the first being Crash Bash. The game's story centers on a multi-millionaire who uses the characters of the series to unearth a powerful object dubbed the "Super Big Power Crystal". The game has received a unanimously negative critical reception upon its release, lambasted mainly for its dull gameplay and bad controls.

Roxette - Anyone

Song Info:

"Anyone" is like its predecessor 'Wish I could fly' a ballad, with instruments including piano, saxophone and strings. "Anyone" was initially planned to be the first single from Have A Nice Day, but the group feared it would sound to "Roxette-ish" for a comeback single[citation needed], and they decided to chose "Wish I Could Fly" instead. After the success of "Wish I Could Fly", fans believed the next single release would be "Stars" or "Crush On You"[citation needed] (both are dance songs atypical for Roxette). But in the end, it was "Anyone" that was picked as the second single. The B-sides are the demo of "Anyone", "Cooper" (a track from Have A Nice Day), and "You Don't Understand Me (Abbey Road Sessions 1995)". The maxi-single includes the video of "Wish I Could Fly". In Japan, a double A-side with "Pay The Price" was released, although there is no video for this song.

Music Video Info:

The video of "Anyone", directed by Jonas Ă…kerlund, was banned by some TV stations (including MTV)[citation needed], because of a scene in which Marie Fredriksson attempts suicide by drowning herself in the sea. The video was recorded in Portugal in the peninsula of TrĂłia. The clip was only broadcast after 10pm in many countries, because some believed it suggested young people to commit suicide[citation needed].
