"Greatest Love of All" is an inspirational song written by Michael Masser and Linda Creed and performed first by George Benson for the 1977 Muhammad Ali biopic The Greatest. The song was later popularized by Whitney Houston. Creed wrote the lyrics in the midst of her struggle with breast cancer. The words describe her feelings about coping with a terminal illness and being a young mother. Creed eventually succumbed to the disease in April 1986 (at the age of 36).

The song was the seventh single released from Houston's self-titled multi-platinum debut studio album, Whitney Houston. The single, released in April 1986, spent three weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in May of that year.^[1] Clive Davis, founder of Houston's label Arista Records, was initially against Houston recording the song, but he eventually gave in after persuasion from Houston and Masser. The song was first included as the B-side to the single "You Give Good Love", another Top 5 hit by Houston.

Houston's original album version features a piano intro, while the single version begins with a keyboard intro. After the single became a success, it replaced the album version on subsequent copies of the album. The original album version was restored for the 2010 Deluxe Anniversary Edition reissue of the album.

Music Video Info:

Houston's music video was filmed at Harlem's Apollo Theater in New York City. In the video, she is a successful singer about to perform in front of an audience at the Apollo Theater. She reminisces about the time when she was a child performing in a talent competition at the very same theater. The video features Houston's mother Cissy Houston playing herself, encouraging and supporting a young Whitney.

"All the Man That I Need" is a song written by American songwriters Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore. The song was first recorded by singer Linda Clifford, in 1982, for her album I'll Keep on Loving You. It was later recorded and released as a single by the musical group Sister Sledge. Their version reached number forty-five on the United States Billboard R&B Singles chart. Later, in 1990, American recording artist Whitney Houston recorded her version and subsequently released it as a single. Her version featured production from Narada Michael Walden. Musically, the song is an R&B number, and the lyrics speak about a special one.

Houston's version received mainly positive reviews from music critics, and also reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100. It also peaked at number on the Billboard R&B Singles and Adult Contemporary charts. Elsewhere, the song reached number one in Canada, while peaking within the top twenty in Ireland, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, while reaching the top forty in countries like Austria, France, Germany, New Zealand, and Switzerland.

Houston has performed the song on her Feels So Right Tour (1990), I'm Your Baby Tonight World Tour (1991), The Pacific Rim Tour (1997), and The European Tour (1998). She has also performed the song on many other appearances including the televised concert Welcome Home Heroes with Whitney Houston, dedicated to the troops, their families, and military and government dignitaries in honor of those returning from the Gulf War. She later performed the song on Hollywood Rock festival and other shows.

Music Video Info:

The accompanying music video for "All the Man That I Need" was directed by Peter Israelson.^[33] The video begins with Houston, donning a curly hairstyle, and wearing a black turtleneck, with her initials "WH" embroidered on it, standing against a wall in a house. She then moves forward in the room, and sits on a chair, singing her lines looking into the camera. The video then switches into another room in the house with all white furniture, including a bed, wardrobe, and grand piano, in which Houston sings. She then moves outside on the balcony, where it is raining. After that scene, she is now seen performing, accompanied by a children's choir, on a stage, in front of an audience at some sort of program. The video ends with Houston finishing the performance, with her outline shown online.

"I Have Nothing" is a song by American singer Whitney Houston and is the third single released from The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album.

Written by David Foster and Linda Thompson, the song is a richly orchestrated power ballad about deep love and commitment to one's lover, through lines such as "I don't want to have to go where you don't follow" and "Stay in my arms if you dare/ or must I imagine you there/ Don't walk away from me/ I have nothing, nothing, nothing if I don't have you."

As of most of Houston's material, this song has been an extremely popular choice on the reality television series American Idol. It is one of the most performed songs on American Idol, with six times, tied for second place alongside Elton John's "Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me." Phil Collins's "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" is in first place.

After the back to back successes of Houston's "I Will Always Love You" and "I'm Every Woman," The Bodyguard soundtrack album had become a massive international success. "I Have Nothing" became yet another hit, peaking at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and being certified gold by the RIAA.

On secondary charts, the song became a hit with a number 1 peak (for 2 weeks) on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks and a number 4 peak on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Internationally, the song performed well in the UK (peaking at number 3) and hit the top twenty in a few other markets; but performed moderately in Australia (number 28), Germany (number 39), and Switzerland (number 39). Remarkably, for the weeks on the Billboard chart ending March 13 and March 20, Houston had three 3 songs in the Top 11: "I Will Always Love You," "I'm Every Woman," and "I Have Nothing;" all from her Bodyguard soundtrack.

The song received nominations for an Academy Award for Best Original Song, and for a 1994 Soul Train Music Award for Best R&B Single - Female, although not winning either nomination.

The music video was directed by Steve Barron and shows Houston performing the song to an audience in a dining room hall. The video is intercut with scenes from the movie The Bodyguard.

Whitney Houston - Run To You

"Run to You" is a song performed by Whitney Houston and is the fourth single released from The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album.

"Run to You" was written by Jud Friedman and Allan Rich. Originally intended to be a break-up song, it was approved by the production and stars. However, a month later, the director of The Bodyguard (Mick Jackson) called, saying he liked the song so much, but he'd rather have it to be a love song so the entire song was rewritten, except for the title.

All of the previous releases from The Bodyguard had been successes, landing in the top five. "Run to You" became a moderate hit, peaking at number 31 on the Billboard Hot 100. In the U.S., it spent six weeks inside the top 40, five of which were spent at the number 31 peak. Airplay and singles sales topped out at number 26 and 41, respectively. The single sales stalled at number 41 on the Hot 100 Singles Sales chart, most likely due to the fact its parent album, The Bodyguard, already was certified 8x platinum and nearing 9x platinum status quickly. Single sales were moderate because most consumers own the song by simply owning the album.

On other Billboard charts, the song was moderately well received. On the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, it reached a peak position of number 31. The song cracked the top 10 on the Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks, peaking at number 10.

Internationally, it was not as well received, except in the UK, peaking at number 15.

"Run to You" and it's soundtrack-mate "I Have Nothing," were nominated for a 1992 Academy Award for Best Original Song, but they lost to "A Whole New World" from Aladdin.

The music video for "Run to You" features scenes from The Bodyguard intercut with scenes of an angelic Houston running on clouds.

"Where Do Broken Hearts Go" is the fourth single from Whitney Houston's second album, Whitney. The ballad was released in March 1988. The song was written by Frank Wildhorn and Chuck Jackson. Wildhorn approached Jackson about the opportunity to write for Whitney Houston. He gave him the title, and Wildhorn completed the music & lyrics for the song.

Initially, Houston did not want to record the song, feeling there was no special message to convey. However, Arista Records CEO Clive Davis believed the song would go to number one if she recorded it, so she agreed. The single became Houston's seventh consecutive number one.

Music Video Info:

The music video (directed by Peter Israelson) features Houston breaking up with a boyfriend and reflecting on happy memories; asking herself the title question, "where do broken hearts go?" At the conclusion of the music video, the couple reunites.

The video was moderately controversial since the ambiguous ethnic background of Houston's love interest highlighted the racial sensitivites that accompanied Houston's success during the 1980s. The singer had been criticized for "selling out" and "acting white". A mostly-black audience jeered when "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" was nominated for an award at the 1989 Soul Train Music Awards.
