Pharao was a German Eurodance act, produced by Alexander Hawking and DJ Stevie Steve. The project was fronted by singer Kyra Pharao (who is of Indian and Egyptian descent, born 1971) and the American rapper Deon Blue (born 1968). Pharao released two albums, Pharao (1994) and The Return (1998).
Their debut single "I Show You Secrets" reached #6 on the German single Media Control Charts within weeks of its release[1] eventually earning them a gold certification.[2] The single also charted well in some European countries including Switzerland and Austria.[3] Their second single "There is a Star" turned out to be another hit reaching #8 in the German official single chart,[1] which in its turn earned them another gold certification.[2] "There is a Star" was also successful in countries such as Switzerland and Sweden,[4] and peaked at #43 in the UK Singles Chart.[5] Their debut album, Pharao, reached #23 on the German album chart.[1] Their third single "World of Magic" was not as successful as the first two singles; however, it managed to enter the Top 30 both in Germany[1] and Sweden.[6]
In 1997, after almost two years of silence, the act made a comeback, without Deon Blue, who had already left the act.
The first single "Temple of Love" from the second album peaked at #36 on the German single chart,[1] but managed to climb as high as #7 within the Finnish single chart.[7] Their second follow-up single, "Once Upon A Time", did not enter the Top 100. Pharao's second album The Return was released in the beginning of 1998, but without success.
According to their former management agency, Pharao disbanded in 2001.[8]
